Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology (2019): “Haloferax volcanii as immobilised whole cell biocatalyst: new applications for halophilic systems”

Very nice to see that Haloferax can indeed catalyse reactions as whole cell organism and be immobilised for reuse too! Great collaboration with our colleague Thorsten Allers here in Nottingham and well done Risat! Link to the paper here Very nice to see that Haloferax can indeed catalyse reactions as whole cell organism and be […]

Catalysts (2019): “Overcoming Water Insolubility in Flow: Enantioselective Hydrolysis of Naproxen Ester”

Very well done David for bringing this paper to a close, the insolubility issue of the substrates was really problematic for flow biocatalysis and the use of small amounts of surfactants solved it much better than high percentage of organic solvents. You can read the paper here

Catalysts (2019): “Synthetic Biomimetic Coenzymes and Alcohol Dehydrogenases for Asymmetric Catalysis”

A very nice work where we collaborated with Caroline Paul in Delft to help her assessing the role of biomimetic coenzymes. Full paper here

Frontiers in Microbiology (2019): “Structural characterization of the Xi class glutathione transferase from the haloalkaliphilic archaeon Natrialba magadii”

First one of 2019! This was a nice collaboration where Jenni cloned the gene for Prof. Allocati (University of Chieti-Pescara) so they could do a full characterisation of this novel enzyme. Check it out here

ACS Omega (2018): “b-Glucosidase Discovery and Design for the Degradation of Oleuropein”

I am delighted about this work being published. Well done Katie! I was visiting Justin Siegel in UC Davis in the summer of 2015 when a few ideas were put together and from what seemed a very unlikely goal, a lovely paper came out! I am very grateful for all I have learnt while in […]

Scientific Reports (2018): Strategic single point mutation yields a solvent- and salt-stable transaminase from Virgibacillus sp. in soluble form

Very nice to finally have this work out too. Another great collaboration with Prof. Molinari in Milan, here we demonstrate the strategic role of a Phe16 (or equivalent) for the folding of transaminases. We found a native TA which had a threonine at that position and was expressed only insolubly. By replacing the T for […]

Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis (2018): Biocatalytic N‐Acylation of Amines in Water Using an Acyltransferase from Mycobacterium smegmatis

Well done to Martina, another great paper and a fabulous nice enzyme we think we can incorporate easily in our cascades. You can find the paper here

ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering (2018): Self-sufficient flow-biocatalysis by co-immobilisation of pyridoxal 5´-phosphate and ω-transaminases onto porous carriers

Amazing work with our collaborator Fernando Lopez-Gallego in Zaragoza, delighted about this paper which we hope to be the first of many joint publications. Well done to Anabel, Martina and Susana! You can find the paper here

Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (2018): Carbene in cupredoxin protein scaffolds: replacement of a histidine ligand in the active site substantially alters copper redox properties

Amazing work in collaboration with Martin Albrecht in Bern, Matteo’s incredible dedication to an almost impossible project eventually paid off! Very well done! Check out the paper here

Langmuir (2018): Significant enhancement of structural stability of the hyperhalophilic ADH from Haloferax volcanii via entrapment on metal organic framework support

Very nice collaborative work with the group of Ed Magner in Limerick (Ireland). Well done Larah, Cristina and Victoria!
