The inSEIT adventure

Over the last year, we have been working on a new adventure… We realised that the majority of our industrial projects are based on developing efficient immobilisation protocols for specific enzymes which may then be used in continuous. We have more than 10 years experience with different immobilisation strategies on a range of different supports, and recently we started developing computational tools […]

CCCE 2022 in Calgary

First long flight in years as we travelled to Calgary for the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CCCE 2022). Great to go with colleagues, meeting new people, and seeing old friends. While the weather was not the best, the symposium on Enzyme Catalysis organised by Prof. David Palmer and our former group member Dr. Daniela […]

Summer 2022 Group day out

What a day! great fun with the boats from Thun to Bern, amazing weather and loads of chats and laughter. Looking forward to the next one! Related Posts

Catalysis Science & Technology (2022): “A novel thymidine phosphorylase to synthesize (halogenated) anticancer and antiviral nucleoside drugs in continuous flow”

Great work from Ana, Calvin and David! Abstract: Four pharmaceutically relevant nucleoside analogues (5-fluoro-2’-deoxyuridine, 5-chloro-2’-deoxyuridine, 5-bromo-2’-deoxyuridine, and 5-iodo-2’-deoxyuridine) have been synthesized by using a novel thymidine phosphorylase from H. elongata (HeTP). Following enzyme immobilization on microbeads, the biocatalyst was implemented as a packed-bed reactor for the continuous production of halogenated nucleosides, achieving up to 90% […]

ChemBioChem (2022): “Fusion of Formate Dehydrogenase and Alanine Dehydrogenase as an Amino Donor Regenerating System Coupled to Transaminases”

Another paper from Valentina with the contribution of our master student Sopha and Ana. Abstract: A fusion protein combining alanine dehydrogenase and formate dehydrogenase has been successfully produced as a bifunctional enzyme. Two different genetic designs by swapping the position of both protein domains were developed, but one construct showed up to 2.5-fold higher enzymatic activity than […]

Biocat2022

Biocat2022 Hamburg hosted the 10th Conference in Biocatalysis. Incredible networking and cutting edge science. Lucia presented her first (international) poster with Chris as co-author and Fran gave an invited talk where she showcased the importance of immobilisation and the new (almost published) work on spheroplasts (stay tuned!). inSEIT was also introduced to the audience!
